The Don’t Tread on Me Flag, officially known as the Gadsden Flag, was created by Christopher Gadsden. He was an American statesman and General. The rattlesnake was fairly abundant in the original 13 colonies. The words "DONT TREAD ON ME" combined with the rattlesnake is a warning. The snake is ready to strike and is warning people not to stomp on or take advantage of the Americans or they will strike.
